3rd Mediterranean Geosciences Union (MedGU) Symposium was held at ITU

ITU hosted the 3rd Mediterranean Geosciences Union (MedGU) for 2023. The symposium, dedicated to the memory of Prof. Dr. Aral Okay, who recently passed away, brought together 400 scientists from 91 countries.

The list of the world’s most influential scientists, prepared annually through the collaboration of Stanford University and the Netherlands-based scientific publishing company Elsevier, was published in the two categories of “Annual Impact” and “Career-Long Impact”.

Bilateral Cooperation with the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS)

Prof. Dr. Tolga Görüm on the Turkish side, and Dr. Jan Blahut from the Czech Academy of Sciences on the Czechia side, has been funded by TÜBİTAK - Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) Bilateral Cooperation Support Programme.

Support from NASA to Our Faculty Member’s Project

The project prepared by the team including our faculty member Prof. Dr. Tolga Görüm from Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences, Department of Solid Earth Sciences, Istanbul Technical University Department of Civil Engineering faculty member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cüneyd Demirel and Prof. Dr. Erkan İstanbulluoğlu from Washington University, was accepted and granted support by NASA.Project focusing on February 6 earthquakes.

Support from NATO to Our Faculty Member

The project, whose principal investigator is Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences, Department of Solid Earth Sciences faculty member Prof. Dr. Tolga Görüm and the total budget is 565 thousand Euros, was accepted and granted support by NATO.

Our Sad Loss

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of one of the pillars of Geology in Turkiye, Prof. Dr. Aral Okay.
